Connecting the Dots Lesson 17
Aaron and the Priesthood - based on the principle of Representational Righteousness – is a pre-figuring of Christ’s representational and substitutionary sacrifice on our behalf.
The Priest:
• He ministers in sacred things.
• He is made a priest by God Himself.
• He is a true mediator.
Christ serves as our high priest in heaven.
The Day of Atonement – (Lev. 16) the one day per year the high priest could enter the Holy of Holies and atone for the sins of the people.
Before entering the high priest must bathe himself and wear special garments.
Sacrifice a bull for a sin offering for himself, his family, and the Israelites – sprinkle some of the blood on the Ark of the Covenant.
Washings – Symbolic Significance
1. Washing and cleansing of the High Priest
2. Washing of the man who released the goat
3. The man who took the sacrificed animals outside the camp to burn the carcasses.
Christ and the Two Goats – propitiation and expiation Rom.5:9, Ps. 103:17, Hebrews 8:12, 9:12, 24, 10:17
