Pastor Wayne Barrett will be teaching this Sunday February 1, 2026 on the Kingdom of God from Matthew 6:33. Pastor Robert will be back next Sunday.
But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.-Matthew 6:33
Having a "Kingdom Mindset" - What Difference Does It Make?
Some Considerations (among many)
It means recognizing that the Kingdom of God exists-and recognizing that there are only two kingdoms to which people can belong.
It means that God's kingdom His rule is our primary pursuit.
God's kingdom-His rule-receives our highest loyalty. And highest means highest. This has some particular applications in "first-world" cultures...
We die to Self.-not so we can be better people or improve ourselves-like going on an exercise program but because we are committed to God's glory and members of His kingdom
It means that God's righteousness is also our primary pursuit (the two are part of the same thing)
Secular and quasi-Christians cultures seek constantly to re-define "righteousness," even though that word is not used.
It's very selective and normally has to do with distribution of resources-in which a dislike of the "haves" plays as much a role as compassion for the "have-nots." Class warfare as "charity.''
It is rarely to never has anything to do with personal morality, personal restraint, spiritual disciplines, worship, the inner life. And nothing to do with faith in Christ-which JS the righteousness of God.
What Does the Kingdom of God Look Like?
The kingdom the rule-of God exists today under most, if not all, regimes. lt exists under oppressive regimes today.
Within even those regimes, it means
• those whose lives are characterized by the fruit of the Spirit
• exercising the gifts of the Spirit to upbuild the church, to the degree that is possible
• bearing faithful witness to Christ
• being obedient to Christ
It does not look like religious people, per se, it looks like Christ-like people It means fidelity to God's word
We know, on earth, if applied to government, it looks like righteousness and justice.
Jesus is the Christ-and the Christ was always identified as bringing righteousness and justice Ultimately, it means new heavens and a new earth.
